DIY Lamp Upscale

I've been on the lookout for a nice lamp to repurpose for my son's room, and a few weeks ago I came across this beauty at a garage sale and snatched it for $3 bucks! The main reason I fell in love with this particular lamp was because it was brand new and the base was all-wood-- and you know me, when it comes to all-wood furniture and fixtures. With a couple coats of spray paint, some jute, and a hot glue gun, you can transform an ugly lamp into a beautiful piece of decoration. Here is how I did it.

I started with a good wipe down and sprayed the base with 2 coats of flat white paint. (I forgot to take a picture after I sprayed the base but you will see the it in the finished picture.)

I picked up a roll of jute string from Lowe's and used it to cover the lamp shade

Starting at the top, apply a small amount of glue, attach the jute and start wrapping it around the shade, working your way down.

Apply a small strip of glue every few layers just to keep it the jute in place.

Put a lightbulb in the lamp and you're done!

Total cost:
Lamp w/ shade -$3
Jute string - $4
Glue - already had
Spray paint - already had
Total - $7
